A new poll shows that the world has become happier since the Global Financial Crisis.

77% of 19,000 adults in 24 countries said they were happy, up three points from 2007.

22% called themselves ‘very happy,’ up from 20%.

The funny part is, the happiest countries aren’t necessarily the richest. 51% of Indonesians and 42% of Indians reported the highest level of happiness, despite a per-person GDP of $4,700 and $3,700 respectively. Nations richer than a certain point had no great correlation between wealth and happiness.

(I think it’s because people in poor, developing nations can look back five or ten years and see remarkable, visible, massive improvement in their environment, perhaps, also their own standing. People in rich nations are perhaps a bit more stable in their wealth, and so find more things to complain about. Don’t quote me on that though.)
